Coffee Project

Choreographer & Performer: Jayden Gigliotti

Musical Composer: Ryan Gray

Choreographic Support: Lydia Zimmer

Juggling Mentorship: Samuel Roy

“Coffee Project was created in my hometown of Creston, BC during the pandemic and was later developed in Montréal as part of a creation grant (at La Tohu and Cirque Eloize) in 2020. It was first performed (virtually) at Eastern Front Theatre's Stages Festival in 2021. Since then, the project has been performed at/ with Festival of Dance Annapolis Royal (Annapolis Royal, 2021), Breaking Circus (Halifax, 2023), Live Art Dance and Kinetic Studio (Halifax, 2024), and Montréal Complètement Cirque Festival (Montréal, 2024)."

The piece follows a youthful character waking in the morning, brewing espresso, and gradually discovering the effects of caffeine as he attempts to "juggle" his morning routine. The piece features dynamic juggling and movement sequences as well as unique prop manipulation.

Program Notes/Thank You: Jayden would like to thank Samuel Roy, Lydia Zimmer, and Ryan Gray for their ongoing contributions; the Canada Council for the Arts for their development and financial support; and the team at Dusk Dances for their technical and programming support.

RAIN CANCELLATION POLICY

Dusk Dances rarely cancels a show in advance of the start time due to inclement weather. All of our artists and volunteers are present at the park (even if it's pouring), and should the clouds part, the sun start to shine, and it's safe to perform, they are ready to go. An announcement is generally made at the park between 7:00pm and 7:30pm if the show has been cancelled. Any cancellation will be announced on Dusk Dances social media, after the announcement in the park.

Withrow Park is located in Toronto, Ontario, south of Danforth Avenue (the nearest TTC subway is Chester Station). Each evening begins in the north-east corner of the park, closest to the intersection of Carlaw Avenue and McConnell Avenue. Once the show starts at 7:30pm, we begin to move the audience around the park to four select sites to watch each dance piece unfold. Not sure where we are? Don’t worry! Follow the crowds of Dusk Dance fans and the sound of music, or, look out for one of our volunteers in an orange vest.
